Which Mountain are You Climbing?

Climbing mountains requires preparation, commitment, and effort. Depending on how high the mountain is, it can include significant risk to life. You may take the challenge of climbing a mountain to test your abilities and resolve, pushing your strength to the limit, creating a feeling of accomplishment. One thing we can agree on is that climbing a mountain requires a tremendous amount of focus.

What does it mean to say that God is the God of the Mountain? Throughout the Bible, God calls His followers to climb a mountain to give direction, provide provision, or build faith. The mountain experience transcends the day-to-day routines, requiring an increased sense of focus on God and His plans.

If we are not careful, we end up climbing mountains that God never intended us to climb, mountains of problems, addictions, inadequacy, depression, or financial pressure. Our focus is drawn to the issue at hand, and we lose sight of the God who can help us through our situation.

Even with regular church attendance, we may lose our focus on God, inadvertently focusing on the resources and not the One who provides the resources, or we hold too tight to the blessing that we forget the One who provides the blessing.  You  might just need a God of the Mountain experience to get the provisions or guidance you need.
