Hebrews | The Sin of Being Your Own Savior
What happens when we try to do for ourselves what only Jesus can do?
In this message from Hebrews 8, Pastor Matthew Ward explores “The Sin of Being Your Own Savior” through the story of King Uzziah and the powerful truth that we already have a High Priest—Jesus Christ—working on our behalf.
Uzziah experienced decades of God’s help and success, but pride eventually led him to step into a role God never gave him. His story reminds us how easy it is to move from depending on God to relying on our own strength, our own accomplishments, and even our own religion.
But the Gospel gives us a better way.
We don’t have to earn God’s acceptance. We don’t have to clean ourselves up. We don’t have to carry the pressure of trying to save ourselves. Through the finished work of Jesus, we have been brought near, made holy, and invited to abide in Him.
You don’t have to be your own savior. You already have one—and His name is Jesus.
